What is STEM?
STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
STEM classes at RSM Christian School provide a dynamic and faith-integrated education that prepares students for the future. In Elementary and Junior High, we emphasize hands-on learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills, fostering a love for discovery and innovation. Our curriculum is designed not only to meet academic standards but also to encourage students to see the beauty of God's creation through the lens of science and technology. By integrating Biblical principles with STEM education, we aim to develop students who are not only intellectually equipped but also spiritually grounded, ready to make a positive impact on the world.
What does STEM look like at RSM Christian School?
Students collaborate, create, design, succeed, fail, and go back to the drawing board. They are encouraged to think deeply and try, try again! After they have investigated and drawn conclusions, students take their results and use them to develop a solution using technology or other media. Language arts is a key element of this process as students focus on the best ways to communicate their methods and outcomes.
TK through 5th grade:
- Focus on the engineering design process to solve real-world problems
- Unique lesson plans integrating classroom curriculum and STEM
- Introduction to coding for TK – 5th grades
6th grade:
- Challenges students to identify and research real-world problems
- Engineering and sustainability
- Robotics unit
7th & 8th grades:
Each trimester offers a different STEM-related focus.
- Trimester 1 focuses on a STEM Career, such as Forensic Science or a Mission to Mars.
- Trimester 2 has an engineering theme. Students will learn basic Mechanical drawing, engineering, and real-world skills to build their design.
- Trimester 3 is all about robotics: from coding and programming to building their own robot to solve a problem.
